Consul-General Opher Aviran  was appointed in August 2010 to serve as the Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States.  He joined Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1983 and has since served as the Second Secretary, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy in Rangoon, Burma, Cultural and Scientific Attache at the Embassy of Israel in The Hague, The Netherlands, and Counselor, Deputy Chief of Mission, at the Israeli Embassy in Canberra, Australia.  Between international postings, Consul General Aviran worked in Israel in a variety of high-level national security positions.  Among these were Director of the Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese Affairs Department in Jerusalem, to which he was appointed in 1999, and Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to the Israel Defense Forces Planning Branch in Tel Aviv from 2004.  In 2007 he was promoted to Head of the Bureau for Personnel Training and Development for the Foreign Ministry.  Consul General Aviran looks forward to promoting political and strategic cooperation between the State of Israel and the Southeast US, and intends to further the economic, commercial, scientific and cultural cooperation in this region.
