UNA-NYC Summer Series: Sustainable Food Systems in New York and the World
Join us from June 10-July 8 for our Summer Series in advance of the UN Food Systems Summit
According to the United Nations, food systems crucially affect “the health of our bodies, as well as the health of our environment, our economies and our cultures”. But today, food systems worldwide are in a debilitated state, a pressing issue exacerbated for millions by the present COVID-19 pandemic.
To help catalyze change and “build back better” from the ongoing international health crisis, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will assemble a Food Systems Summit in September this year with the aim of setting in motion initiatives to change “the way the world produces, consumes and thinks about food.” The Summit will be a key moment in the 2030 Agenda toward reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as food systems impact almost every major issue the planet faces.
Civic engagement and awareness is an important intended outcome of the Food Systems Summit. In order to best prepare New Yorkers and people around the world to engage with the Summit, we are hosting a series of four virtual events in June and July to educate the general public about the different issues our planet’s food systems face—and how the UN works to solve them.
