Who We Are

With the first draft of the UN Charter having been written in Nashville, the city is uniquely placed to advance the movement of Americans dedicated to supporting the UN.

The Nashville Cordell Hull Chapter was established on January 17, 1945, the first of more than 200 local chapters of the United Nations Association-USA (UNA-USA).  It is part of a national nonprofit, bipartisan organization that supports the work of the United Nations and encourages active civic participation in the most important social and economic issues facing the world today.

The year 2020 was the 75th anniversary of our UNA Chapter, adoption of the Charter of the United Nations, and Nobel Peace Award presented to Cordell Hull in 1945. The chapter is named for and honors our native son, longest-serving US Secretary of State, “Father of the United Nations” and Nobel Peace Laureate, Cordell Hull.
