Tye Ebel
Tye Ebel was born and raised in Chattanooga, where he attended the McCallie School before moving to North Carolina to get his BA from Elon University. As a college student, Tye majored in History and International Studies and spent a semester in Perugia, Italy. After college, he taught for three years in the Japanese public education system and then moved to Vancouver to earn a master’s degree in Asian Policy, with a focus on the international tourism industry, from the University of British Columbia. While in graduate school, Tye attended conferences in both the Netherlands and Japan and conducted research in Mongolia for the Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism. Following graduate school, Tye worked remotely for a Canadian based business consultancy before joining the Consulate General of Japan in Nashville in late 2015. In his current position, he works closely with universities and community organizations to recruit, select and prepare young Americans to work and study in Japan. While his official work limits him to Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee, he still finds opportunities to get out and explore the world whenever possible with his wife and daughters. To date, Tye has been to well over 100 countries and territories including 84 UN member states.
